The Lough Derg Blueway
The Lough Derg Blueway is made up of a series of multi activity recreational trails on the water and on land from the three Irish counties of Clare, Tipperary, and Galway. It provides the opportunity for amazing adventures and enjoyable activities. “You can do it your way – by canoe, paddle board, under sail, by bicycle or by foot. With 21 easy to use shoreline paddling journey around Lough Derg, complimented by a series of walking and cycling trails, there truly is something for everyone!”.
A series of guides and zone maps have been produced to help you plan your next short break or holiday to the Lough Derg Blueway. The Eastern Section is the zone that includes Garrykennedy .
Lough Derg Yacht Club – The club is based in Dromineer and offers great sailing and cruising for all types of boats. Dinghy classes sailed include Optimist, Mirrors, Lasers, 420s and the Shannon One Design. We have evidence in the Archives that Lough Derg Yacht Club was formed in 1835, making it one of the oldest in this country. The first Annual Regatta was held the following year, and we have programmes of most such events held since then.
Shannon Sailing – Enjoy “Sailing Fun” in groups while learning and improving sailing skills and safety on the water. Shannon Sailing use dinghies and small/medium sized Yachts or Sailboats with qualified instructors in our Approved Sailing School. Activites include Sailing Camp and Fun Sailing, Junior Sailing, Adult Courses, Keelboat Cruises, Private Tuition, Blind Sailing for the Visually Impaired.

North Tipp Cycling – The North Tipperary Cycle Network, with the town of Nenagh as its hub offers three routes varying in distance from 11km to 67km with numerous shorter alternatives. Each cycle offers pleasant views of the local countryside while loops 1 and 2 provide stunning lakeshore panoramas.
